GUJRANWALA, Sept 1: Leaders and workers of industrial units and labour organizations have said that they will not accept the privatization of the social security department at any cost.
This was stated by leaders of various labour organizations, including Sardar Adib, Naseeruddin Humayun Malik, Mian Ataur Rehman, Sahibzada Hatim Saeed and Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool, while speaking at a workers' rally here on Wednesday.
The rally started from Sheranwala Bagh and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk after parading on the GT Road. The protesters, carrying banners and placards, chanted slogans against the government.
The leaders demanded that the decision of privatization of the social security department should be withdrawn as it was an attempt to deprive thousands of factory workers and their children of better facilities of education, health and employment. Leaders of the labour organizations pledged that the struggle of workers would continue till the acceptance of their demand.
GIRLS COLLEGE: The Inter College for Girls has been established in Wahando while the required teaching staff and office furniture will be provided by the Education department shortly.
This was stated by district education officer (elementary) Muhammad Saeed Basra and district officer (colleges) Muhammad Abbas Heral here on Wednesday. They pointed out that the Punjab chief minister had given an approval for the establishment of the girls college in a remote area on the appeal of advisor Dr Sohail Zafar Cheema.
They said that the admission in the first year had been started. They said the people of Wahando had been demanding a girls college since long.
RECOVERED: The Peoples Colony police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered a trader kidnapped for ransom and arrested five accused, including a woman, after a raid in Ghakkhar town.
DPO Saud Aziz said the accused riding in a car had kidnapped trader Javed Shamas when he was on way home by his motorcycle after closing his shop some two days ago. Later, the kidnappers rang his heirs and demanded Rs1.5 million ransom for his release.
The DPO said the accused had taken the trader to Ghakkhar town where they kept him in a rented house on Kot Noora Road. On getting information, he said a police team comprising senior officers raided there and recovered Shamas from their possession. He said the raiding team also arrested accused Irfan, Ata, Khizer, Abdul Tawab, Yousaf and Razia Bibi. A case has been registered against the arrested accused.
SHOT DEAD: A man shot dead his wife on suspicion in Naushera Virkan on Wednesday. The woman was present in her house along with her alleged lover Ishaq Ahmad when Younus came there and opened fire on her. She died on the spot while her alleged lover escaped. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
