Published September 4, 2004

HYDERABAD, Sept 3: Sindh Tarraqi Passand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has taken strong exception to remarks made by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Yousuf on the Sindh-Balochistan border issue , and said a conspiracy was being hatched to sabotage the ongoing movement in Balochistan for the rights of the Baloch people.

In a statement issued here on Thuesday, Dr Magsi, who is also the provincial president of Ponam, said the Balochistan chief minister was not ignorant of the history and he made the statement about the demography of Sindh and Balochistan intentionally with an ulterior motive. He said that the rulers were greatly perturbed over the unity among the people of Sindh and Balochistan and trying to create differences between them.

Dr Magsi said Sindhis and the Baloch were united against the ongoing military operation in Balochistan and for this purpose the vested interests were trying to break their alliance by hatching conspiracies. He said that the people of the two provinces could not be hoodwinked.

SNC: Meanwhile, Sindh National Council spokesman Punhal Sario has criticized the statement of the Balochistan chief minister wherein the chief minister claimed that Jacobabad used to be a part of Balochistan.

The SNC official said that Jacobabad had never been a part of Balochistan and all claims in this regard were incorrect and a clear distortion of historical facts.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said it was for the first time that all the people of Sindh regardless of their ethnic backgrounds had adopted a joint stand on the army operation in Balochistan and were against it. He said that Sindhis and the Baloch were natural allies and the statement of Mr Jam Yousuf was aimed at breaking this alliance.
