HYDERABAD, Sept 5: People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Qaim Ali Shah has urged the government to convene a session of the Council of Common Interests to discuss the disputed water projects.

Talking to journalists at the residence of local PPP leader Pervez Ansari here on Saturday, the newly-appointed provincial president of the party, Mr Shah, said the CCI should also seek opinion of water experts and opposition.

Questioning credibility of the parliamentary and technical committees on water resources, he said that the controversial schemes of Kalabagh Dam and greater Thal canal had already been rejected by three provincial assemblies.

He asserted that if the Sindh chief minister and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were sincere to the cause of Sindh, they should either move a resolution against the projects or support the one tabled by the PPP.

Saying that Sindh had always suffered whenever a mega water project had been executed in the country, he alleged that dictators had always created rifts among provinces to achieve their personal goals.

As far as reshuffle in the organizational set-up of the PPP was concerned, he said that party chairperson Benazir Bhutto wanted to see that parliamentary and party affairs were kept separate so that both fronts could be effectively tackled. Re-organization of the party was an arduous task, he said and added shortcomings would be overcome.
