SUKKUR, Sept 8: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has demanded that the government should not privatize educational institutions.

Speaking at a meeting at the Education College here on Tuesday, SPLA office-bearers Prof Ayub Mari, Prof Manzoor Chajro and others said privatization of institutes would deprive children of poor people of their right to get education.

The meeting demanded removal of the controller of examinations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Larkana, and Sindh Education Minister Hamida Khuhro. Later, SPLA activists marched up to the DCO's and handed over a charter of demands to District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. The nazim assured the activists that he would talk to the Sindh government on the issue.

KILLED: Tension mounted in Kandhkot after the killing of a Sabzoi tribesman by a group of armed Chachar tribesmen near the Guddu Bridge on Tuesday morning. The man killed was identified as Abdul Ghani.

The incident led to an exchange of fire between the two groups, who entrenched against each other. The groups have been at odds over a theft case for 10 year and the dispute has claimed lives of 20 people from both sides.

TWO KILLED: Two members of the Pitafi tribe were killed when a rival group of the same clan attacked Keehar Mori village, near Yaroo Lund, Ghotki district, on Tuesday.

Some 15 days back, Kidro Pitafi of one group was shot dead by the other group on pretext of karo-kari. To avenge his death, the first group stormed the village to kill Mohammad Baqar. The assailants opened indiscriminate firing, as a result of which, Baqar was killed on the spot. His relatives retaliated and, in the exchange of fire, a relative, Abdul Malik, was killed while Mohammad Usman was injured.
