GUJRANWALA, Sept 14: The district and sessions judge has summoned a Nazim, Naib Nazim, two councillors and secretary of union council No 43/7 on Oct 10 in an embezzlement case filed by a lady councillor.

Saima Aqeel in her petition alleged that the Nazim and his colleagues misappropriated Rs35,000 for purchasing street light goods. She said the shopkeepers concerned also denied selling of the goods to the UC Nazim or the councillors.

FRANCHIZED BUSES: The regional transport authority has directed franchized bus owners to provide better facilities to commuters by increasing the number of buses on the local route.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Tuesday, the RTA secretary pointed out that 25 franchized buses on Kamoki to Ghakkhar route were insufficient due to the rising number of commuters.

He said at least 15 more buses should be added to facilitate the people. The bus owners assured the meeting that new buses would be arranged shortly.

SCRAP IMPORTERS: Scrap importers have expressed concern over slow pace of clearance of their consignments at Port Qasim in Karachi. At a meeting held here on Tuesday, the scrap importers of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal and Hafizabad said in the past, their consignments were examined inside the containers and cleared within three to five days.

But now the Port Qasim administration had changed the policy, and the consignments were being examined outside the containers. They said this process took about two weeks for clearance and they had to face financial losses.

They said due to delay in clearance of consignments, many scrap furnaces had been closed down rendering hundreds of workers jobless. They demanded that the Port Qasim administration should take scrap importers into confidence to resolve their problems. They suggested that the old system of clearance should be restored.

POSTING: Primary and elementary schoolteachers from Kamoki circle have criticized the education department for posting a male deputy district education officer against a female seat.

Female teachers were reluctant to contact the male officer for their problems regarding their salaries and promotion cases. The DDEO, it is said, has failed to clear teachers' salary cheques. The teachers urged the Punjab chief minister and education minister to hold into the male DDEOs posting.
