THATTA, Sept 15: A four-member inspection team of the Provincial Local Government Commission on Tuesday held discussions with 38 nazims of union councils of the district on various issues.

The UC nazims briefed the team about development schemes carried out in their areas since the commencement of the local bodies system. The team comprised MPA Hamid Zafar, the member of the PLGC, Mir Nasir Abbas, the director-general of PLGC's inspection, monitoring and evaluation cell, Dr Mansoor Abbas, and the director of the PLGC, Asad Abbas.

The team made detailed inquiries from District Nazim Shafqat Shirazi, 38 members of the district council and officials including DCO Ahmed Bux Narejo. Taking notice of absence of opposition members mainly affiliated with the PPP who had contested local bodies elections through the Awam Dost Panel, the commission said it wanted to know their views on the subject.

On this, the district nazim responded that there existed no opposition in the Thatta district council. The nazims who attended the meeting include UC Kalankot Nazim Dilshad Shah, UC Sukhpur Nazim Abdul Aziz Kalmati, UC Sonda Nazim Ibrahim Gandro, UC Jhok Sharif Nazim Abdullah Shah, UC Jungshahi Nazim and others.

They told the commission that instead of being affiliated with the Shirazi group, they were themselves involved in getting development schemes materialized as per specifications and rules.

The commission was told that some 805 kilometres katcha and metallic roads were constructed within the district. Other schemes include new school buildings, repair and renovation of school buildings and dispensaries.
