PPP asks Musharraf to quit one post

QUETTA, Sept 17: Balochistan PPP has said that President Musharraf's retaining the posts of the president and the chief of army staff would create a political crisis in the country.

Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani, acting provincial chief of the party, chaired the party meeting at the Sarawan House that discussed the prevailing political situation in the country.

The meeting held the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal responsible for the passage of the 17th Amendment that was being used by the government to confuse the people over the uniform issue.

The participants alleged that President Musharraf was violating the constitution. The PPP asked the government to immediately stop the military operation in Wana and start negotiations with tribal elders.

The meeting observed that to establish cantonments in Balochistan against the wishes of the people would not be a welcome step. Besides, the apprehensions over Gwadar seaport should be removed, it said.

Balochistan PPP demanded the release of Asif Ali Zardari, Bismillah Khan Kakar and other political activists. The meeting decided to hold a seminar on the Balochistan issue and formed a committee to meet members of other political parties in this regard and submit a report.
