NAWABSHAH, Sept 19: Tail-end farmers of the Bhit Maro pipe- II, 68 Regulator, Nusrat Canal, Shahpur Chakar subdivision, have demanded that the irrigation minister should ensure supply of water to their area.
Talking to journalists at the press club here on Sunday, Sujawal Zardari, Ali Jan Rind, Akhtar Rind, Abdul Rehman Brohi and other farmers said about 2,200 acres of land being irrigated through the Bhit Maro pipe-II had been rendered barren due to non-availability of water.
They said their cotton crop had been badly affected. They said they had complained to irrigation officials about the water shortage but the situation had not improved.
The farmers accused the officials of selling water to landlords and depriving tail-end growers of their due share. They demanded that tail-end farmers should be provided with their share of water.
Meanwhile, four farmers of the Jadoo Minor, Malwah Branch, Janal Shah Minor, continued their token hunger strike for the sixth consecutive day outside the press club here on Sunday against non-availability of water.
