GILGIT, Sept 20: The annual Silk Route festival will be held from Sept 22 to 28. The festival is held every year to highlight local culture, and includes exhibition of handicrafts and gems, traditional cuisine and folk songs.
The festival's main aim is to attract tourists from across the country and the world to Northern Areas to boost the region's economy. The district administration of Gilgit said all arrangements had been made to hold the festival in a befitting manner.
TRANSFERS, POSTINGS POSTPONED: The Northern Areas administration has postponed all sorts of recruitment in its departments and also postponed postings and transfers in the wake of forthcoming Northern Areas' Legislative Council and local bodies elections.
The sources said all departments had been directed to reschedule dates of recruitment and all candidates aspiring for different jobs should be intimated accordingly and fresh dates for tests and interviews would be announced after the election process.
The sources further said that all transfers and postings had also been deferred till the completion of election process. They said they stopped postings as they might be requiring a large number of polling officers and their assistants to conduct elections in 826 polling stations being set up for the elections throughout the region.
