ATTOCK, Sept 20: The Zila Council through a resolution has urged President Pervez Musharraf to continue as the Chief of Army Staff in the larger national interest. Zila Nazim Attock Major Tahir Sadiq (Retd) had tabled the resolution at a special session of the council presided over by convener and Naib Zila Nazim Attock Malik Muhammad Sameen Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, the Nazim said that in the last five years, President Musharraf had steered the country out of crisis and put her on the road to progress and prosperity. Therefore, it was in the supreme national interest that he would continue in uniform for solidarity, integrity and national cohesion in the country.

The Nazim termed Gen Musharraf a bold leader, saying that his practical steps to root out terrorism had elevated the image of the country in the comity of nations. The nation had full confidence in his leadership, he claimed.

President Musharraf, he said, had resolved the nuclear crisis with great sagacity and far-sightedness. Mr Tahir criticized the opponents of Gen Musharraf. Members Zila Council Malik Letohbar Khan, Sardar Fateh Khan, Malik Muhammad Taj, Muhammad Umar Khatak, Sher Ahmad Naeem and Wajid Ali Khan also spoke in favour of the resolution. District Coordination Officer Attock Babur Khan Nasir, Council Officer Malik Muhammad Ashraf and EDOs were also present in the meeting. -APP
