HYDERABAD, Sept 21: The district council on Tuesday deplored the pathetic condition of women's parks in the city and called for their improvement since the city already lacked recreational facilities, especially for women and children.

Members warned that if condition of the Parda, Holmstead Hall and Ayesha parks was not improved, they might be encroached upon by land grabbers. Therefore, it was necessary for the district government to provided funds for their renovation.

Member Q. Hakim proposed that part of a veterinary hospital in his union council should be converted into 'Hirabad family park' and urged the district government to start work on it.

Such parks should be set up at the taluka level, he added. A vocational centre could also be set up on the land as the hospital was almost closed, he said, and added that a vast area lying abandoned had become a haven for addicts.

The resolution was supported by the members, particularly women. Sumera Akhlaq and Shahida Ansari said that since women did not have enough recreational facilities, due attention should be paid to Ayesha Park and Rani Bagh. Badarunnisa Qazi, Rana Siddiqui and Parveen Lodhi proposed that the park at Holmstead Hall should also be included in the list as it was a serious matter.
