SUKKUR: Protest against load shedding

SUKKUR, September 23: Hundreds of people held a demonstration and staged a sit-in at the Clock Tower here on Thursday to protest against undeclared power load shedding and non-supply of drinking water in their areas.

The residents of the Microwave, Islam, Pir Murad Shah, Shahbaz colonies, Bhusa Lane and other areas took part in the protest. Speaking on the occasion, their leaders said that the people of Sukkur were facing the load shedding on daily basis for quite some time which was badly affecting their routine activities.

They said that despite an assurance by the municipal authorities, several areas of the city were without water and their residents were compelled to fetch water from other areas.

They warned the taluka council of a protest movement if water supply was not restored in the affected areas within a week. They urged the Hesco officials to desist from undeclared load shedding and said that otherwise a protest movement would be launched against the company.

Meanwhile, a protest demonstration was held and a sit-in staged in Faiz Ganj, Khairpur district, on Thursday, in protest against suspension of power supply for two days.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of the Shehri Ittehad, Allah Bukhsh Khand and Mehmood Khan Shar, said that due to negligence of the Hesco officials, Faiz Ganj was without electricity for two days. They called upon Hesco to restore power supply and warned that otherwise protest would be launched on large scale.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY: Three truck drivers were injured when a group of bandits opened fire on a convoy on the Indus highway in the Karampur area of Jacobabad on Wednesday.

The bandits tried to stop the convoy of trucks and buses but the drivers did not stop their vehicles. The bandits opened fire as a result of which three truck drivers, Abdul Mutallib, Karam Khan and Ali Jan, were injured and later, shifted to a Kandhkot hospital. The dacoits looted several truck drivers and bus passengers and fled.

The looted people staged a sit-in on the highway for two hours. The TPO of Kandhkot arrived there and assured them of early arrest of the bandits on which the highway blockade was ended. However, no case was registered till the filing of this report.

KILLED: A motorcyclist, Khalil Chandio, was killed and his companion Ghulam Rasool injured in a road accident on the National Highway near Qazi Ahmed on Thursday.
