RAWALPINDI, Sept 29: A woman was burnt critically by her brother-in-law and his wife in Sihala on Tuesday night, the father of the victim alleged. However, police said the case was yet to be investigated.

Kausar Bibi, 28, wife of Meharban Khan of Kirpa village, was brought to the Polyclinic by the accused, Sultan Raja, who left her in the hospital and disappeared. Later, she was shifted to Pims with 90 per cent burns where the doctors directed her parents to take her to POF hospital.

But the woman was brought to the Rawalpindi General Hospital and later taken to Kharian hospital. Mukhtar Ahmed, the father of the burn victim, lodged an FIR with the Sihala police, stating that his daughter was set on fire by her brother-in-law Sultan Raja and his wife Khalida Bibi.

ASI Ashraf, who is leading the investigation, said the victim was unable to record her statement at Pims. However, the circumstances in which she was burnt seemed suspicious.

Meanwhile, a boy was run over by a car (DNB-3514) in the Airport police area. Musarrat Jahangir told the police that he and his son Jibran were going along the roadside when the speeding car hit his son and fled. The injured was taken to a hospital where he died.

SUICIDE: A man killed his wife and later committed suicide by shooting himself in Kallar Syedan on Wednesday. Police said Zahid Mehmood and his wife Nayyar Bibi had developed difference and on Wednesday the couple again had a brawl over some domestic issue.

Zahid got infuriated and shot dead his wife and later committed suicide by shooting himself with the same pistol. The couple left behind a one-year-old daughter, the police said.
