GUJRANWALA, Sept 30: A fireworks explosion claimed the life of a boy while two men sustained injuries here on Thursday in Timber Market, Wazirabad. Reports said Zahid Butt and Nadir Rafiq were preparing fireworks at their shop.

Suddenly the material caught fire and all stock exploded blowing the roof of the shop. As a result Zahid Butt died on the spot while Nadir Rafiq and a passer-by Abdul Rehman suffered injuries.

They were rushed to the THQ hospital in a critical condition. The adjacent shops and buildings were also damaged due to the explosion. Police are investigating into the matter.

ACQUITTED: A local court on Thursday acquitted a DSP and 10 police officials by giving them the benefit of the doubt for allegedly killing two men in an encounter.

Reports said former city DSP Shahid Mehboob, ASIs Allah Ditta and Muhammad Siddique, constables Abdul Rashid, Nasir, Shabir, Manzoor and Mansha killed Muhammad Asghar and Zamir Ahmad in an 'encounter' a year ago. But the prosecution failed to prove murder charges against them and judge Nazir Ahmed acquitted all the accused.

SET FREE: As many as 33 prisoners of the district jail were released here on Thursday on the orders of the district and sessions judge. Directed by D&SJ Javed Ahmad Siddiqi, Additional District and Sessions Judge Wamiq Javed visited the jail and sought the list of those prisoners who were involved in petty cases. Later, he ordered their release.

The jail authorities set the prisoners, including a woman of Wazirabad, free. The judge also visited barracks of women prisoners and got information about their cases. He reviewed the security system at the jail.
