SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 3: The traffic on Lahore-Sargodha Road was suspended for about an hour in protest against the killing of a youth allegedly due to severe torture of the Farooqabad police here on Sunday.

The Sadar ASP along with a police contingent rushed to the spot and get the traffic restored. It was learnt that DPO Shahid Iqbal ordered registering a case against the accused policemen.

Inspector Zafar Iqbal and constables Rehmat and Zulfiqar had arrested Shahbaz (25) for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking on Sept 24. They had kept him in a torture cell where he was regularly tortured.

He was produced before judicial magistrate Farzana Bashir, who directed to get his medical examination from the local DHQ Hospital. The police never complied with the court orders and sent him to the district jail. Later, he was released on bail.

His heirs admitted him to a private hospital because he was tortured so severely that he could hardly walk. However, he died while being shifted to the DHQ Hospital for his deteriorated condition. Further investigation is under way.
