KARACHI, Oct 4: Daniyal Alvi created quite a stir in the Subh-e-Nau ITF juniors world ranking tennis championship, when he downed top seed Kirati Siributwong from Thailand in three gruelling sets at the Karachi Gymkhana hard courts on Monday.

The previous day, Kirati looking extremely invincible picked up the boys singles crown disposing off Gursher Harika from India without conceding a game. On Monday afternoon however, the Thai after picking up the first set 6-4, began to take things rather leisurely and paid the price.

Daniyal bringing out his best, cashed on Kirati's several unforced errors to level the scores 1-1, winning the second set 6-3 and then sensing that victory was within his grasp, played some fine tennis to win the final set and match 7-5, although Kirati tried desperately hard to stave off defeat.

Another Pakistani youngster who did himself proud on Tuesday was Danish Ahmed, who got the better of Indian lad Sangwan Shiva 6-3, 6-4. Sangwan excelled with his double fisted backhand and forehand smashes, but Danish attacking from both flanks had the final say.

Kirati's 14-year-old brother Peerakit Siributwong determined not to take things easy which cost his brother his match, attacked from the word go and came through a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Abdullah Ali.

Myanmar, one of the six nations contesting in this championship had a 100 percent record when their top seed Nyi Nyi Tun had to work hard before overcoming the courageous Pakistani youngster Rashid Jahangir 6-3, 6-4.

Then Zaw Khaw Naing gave the Myanmar contingent something more to cheer about, stopping powerfully built 14-year-old Nasir Mushtaq in his tracks 6-0, 6-1. Nasir's doubles partner Ghulam Abbas Panju met the same fate, but Ghulam gave a good account of himself before bowing out to Arif Mateen 7-5, 6-3.

In a match that went the full distance, Raza S. Abbas had to struggle hard in overcoming Jawad S. Garzedi 6-4, 6-7 (2-7). Raza won a hard earned first set 6-4 but lost the next set on a tiebreaker 6-7 (2-7).

With both players going for the kill, it was Raza who came through a 6-4 winner in the final set. Second seed Jitin Bishnoi displaying powerful services packed with a few aces easily got the better of Ali Amir Khan 6-1, 6-2.

Third seed Vijit Sehgal had to battle hard in the first set against Tanveer Ashiq 6-4, but once into is strides took the next set rather easily 6-1. Vijit's doubles partner Neil Rajpal also made it through the next round. The Canadian sixth seed stopped Changez Afridi 6-1, 6-2.

Promising Haris Iltifat had to break into a sweat in getting the better of Mubashir Afridi 6-2, 7-5. Fourth seed Kinshuk Sharma had an easy passage into the next round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rizwan Khan and the same can be said about fifth seed Gursher Harika who beat Amir Dewan 6-1, 6-0.

Another Indian lad Rajkanwar Singh also had an easy encounter while downing Hassan Ahmed 6-2, 6-1. Eight seed Yasir Khan got the better of Ali Asghar Bandeali 6-1, 7-5 (7-6), while Ejaz Usman had a rough ride into the next round finally overwhelming Ali Mohsin Baghat 6-4, 7-6 (7-6). In a girls singles event, Parveen Rabia beat Bushra Bashir 6-3, 6-3.
