MARDAN, Oct 8: Deputy Speaker of the NWFP Assembly, Ikramullah Shahid, said that the government had failed to enforce Islamic system in the province.

He was reacting to a statement given here by Chief Minister Akram Durrani on Wednesday claiming that his government had introduced Shariah in the province.

The deputy speaker, who was addressing a press conference at the Mardan Press Club on Thursday night, said he was ready to hold a debate with the chief minister to challenge his claim.

The chief minister had also stated that the government had spent Rs1.25 billion on developing Mardan, but Mr Shahid said the CM's assertions on this count too were misleading.
