HYDERABAD, Oct 10: A test for admission to the first year MBBS and BDS in the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences was held at the Public School Hyderabad on Sunday.
A total 3,709 candidates -- 1,647 boys and 2,062 girls - appeared in the test for 268 seats. The Hyderabad district has been allotted 100 seats, Sanghar 32, Mirpurkhas 29, Thatta 30, Badin 29, Nawabshah 29 and Tharparkar 19.
Strict security arrangements were made and no unconcerned person was allowed to enter the premises of the exam centre. An eye witness told Dawn that even professors of the Liaquat University were stopped and turned back.
The Bahria University and the Computer Science Institute of Karachi conducted the test simultaneously in Hyderabad, Karachi, Larkana and Sukkur. A total of 10,797 candidates appeared in the test at the four centres.
The total number of seats for MBBS and BDS courses in the province is only 912. Karachi has been allotted 398 seats, Hyderabad 268, Larkana 141, and Sukkur 105. There is an increase of 2,096 candidates applying for admission when compared to the last year.
OUR SUKKUR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: The test for admission to the Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Khan Mahar Medical College, Sukkur, was held at the Public School here on Sunday. The Bahria University, Khairpur, conducted the test, which was taken by 1,849 candidates.
There are 125 seats in the college, 105 of which will be filled on merit, 18 on self-finance and two seats are reserved for foreign students. Sukkur has 21 seats, Ghotki has 20, Khairpur has 32 and Naushahro Feroze has 32 seats.
ELECTROCUTED: A villager, Ameer Bux Behlkani, was electrocuted in Kandhkot on Sunday while fixing a grass-cutting machine.
