OKARA: PMA officials take oath

OKARA, Oct 10: Defence Minister Rao Sikander Iqbal has said that the government is making laws for the eradication of quackery in the country.

This he said while speaking as chief guest in the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association here on Sunday.

The minister said that doctors were the important segment of society who served the masses round the clock. He said the government was taking every possible step for providing better health facilities.

He also announced a donation of Rs0.75 million for the uplift of PMA House in Fateh Town. Later, the newly-elected office bearers, including president Muhammad Azam Khan, senior vice-president Dr Javid Akhtar, secretary-general Dr Abdul Aleem Asif, swore an oath.

The ceremony was also attended by Tehsil Nazim Nadeem Abbas Rubera, MPA Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna and former MPAs Chaudhry Ikramul Haq and Chaudhry Muhammad Arif and PML-N MPA Mian Yawar Zaman.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead by some unidentified assailants on Sunday in Basirpur. Muhammad Akram (35) was going to the house of his sister by bicycle when he was targeted. Police are going into the matter.
