RAWALPINDI, Oct 11: National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) Chairman Daniyal Aziz has said some amendments to the Police Order 2002 have been suggested to improve coordination between local and provincial governments.

He said this while speaking at the inaugural session of a seminar on 'Implementation of Police Order 2002'. The seminar was organized by the Punjab police at the Police College Sihala on Monday.

Commandant Police College DIG Mirza Mohammad Ali, Deputy Commandant SSP Mohsin Hassan Butt, former IGP Zulfiqar Ali Qureshi, high ranking police officials and experts were also present on the occasion.

Mr Aziz said with the implementation of Police Order 2002, the performance of police would become better and the life and property of the citizens would be effectively protected.

He said the police order should not be seen in perspective of the old colonial and conventional 'Thana' culture and influence. He said under the Police Order 2002, police powers had been defined and limited to stop them from misusing.

Mr Aziz said some government officials were finding it difficult to accept the new police law and as a result power tussle started between different services cadres. But, we will have to establish a new culture of good governance by accepting the new police order, he added.

He said despite limited resources the government had been giving top priority to improving working condition of the police and providing them better training facilities.

Earlier, Commandant Police College Sihala DIG Mirza Mohammad Ali highlighted the objectives of the seminar. Former IGP Afzal Ali Shigri also spoke on the occasion.
