FAISALABAD, Oct 15: The Faisalabad anti-terrorism court on Friday sentenced two people, including a Naib Nazim of a union council, to eight years' rigorous imprisonment and Rs100,000 fine each for taking law into their hands during a protest held against the Khurrianwala police.
According to the prosecution, more than 200 villagers besieged Khurrianwala police station, blocked the road, pelted stones and created law and order problem in the area during a protest against police for not registering a gang rape case about a year ago.
The police booked union council 34 Naib Nazim Malik Akram Shahab and Abdul Majeed Awan along with 50 others under Section 436 PPC and 7 ATA. Malik Akram and Abdul Majeed were sentenced while the others were acquitted by giving them the benefit of the doubt.
DEATH SENTENCE: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday handed down death sentence on two counts and Rs100,000 fine to a man for murdering his grandparents.
According to prosecution, convict Shahid of Chak 119 JB, murdered his grandfather Gulab Din, 70, and grandmother Bashiran, 65, over a property dispute in Nishatabad about a year ago. He buried the bodies in the compound of his house and staged a drama that they had been disappeared.
Imran Husain, the uncle of Shahid, registered a case against him on suspicion and the convict confessed to committing the crime before police. In case of default, the convict would have to undergo one year's rigorous imprisonment.
