SIALKOT, Nov 17: People from various walks of life have protested against the shortage of teachers and non-availability of buildings and basic facilities in government schools.

According to the official record of the education department, there are no English teachers in these mentioned schools. There are no science and mathematics teachers for 2,500 students of the Girls Higher Secondary School, Badiana, Pasrur tehsil, for the last 14 years.

More than 8,500 students of 40 government boys primary schools in Sialkot tehsil's four union councils - Kamalpur, Gadgor, Kapurpur and Chahoor - have not yet been provided with basic facilities.

According to the local people, these schools don't have required number of teachers and have small classrooms which cannot accommodate 200 students. There are 500 students in a classroom of Boys Primary School in Seowal.

The boys primary schools in Maaliyaanwali, Karonokey Khurd, Jabbokey and Punnan villages have no buildings and students are forced to sit in open ground under the sun. Thirty-four primary schools have no boundary walls, while the buildings of several schools are in rundown condition.

The concerned parents and notables of these villages have appealed to the governor and chief minister to take stock of the situation and provide teachers and other facilities in the schools.
