SUKKUR, Nov 22: Six people were killed and six others injured in a clash between Chachar and Mahar groups in the Sadhuja police area, Pano Akil taluka, Sukkur district on Monday.

Khairo Chachar, allegedly involved in the killing of six policemen and attempted murder of a former SSP, Muneer Chisti, was residing in the katcha area and some five days back his tube well was stolen by unidentified persons.

He suspected that some Mahars of the area were involved in the theft and to take revenge he hijacked their motorcycle two days back. The Mahar group retaliated and hijacked a tractor and a motorcycle from Saeed Chachar which flared up the dispute.

Some 35 armed men of the Mahar group attacked Khairo's hideout in the forest area where his men had already taken positions and pitched battle fight continued for three hours.

As a result, Jhando Mahar, Ghani Mahar, Pir Mahar, Khairo Chachar, Ali Nawaz Chachar and one unidentified man were killed on the spot and six others were injured whose names could not be ascertained immediately.

Police sources said the death toll might increase. No arrest was reported till the filing of this report. Contingents of police were dispatched to the area to control the law and order.

KARO-KARI: Police on Monday arrested two of four accused booked in the murder case of Gaji Jiskani, 50, who was killed two days back on the pretext of karo-kari in a village near Kandhra town.

Ghulam Murtaza, the son of the deceased, had lodged an FIR at the Kandhra police station against Ali Gul, Subhan, Ghous Bux and Qurban Jiskani. Those arrested were identified as Ghous Bux and Qurban Jiskani while raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining two accused.

It may be mentioned that Gaji Jiskani was ostracized and fined Rs250,000 after being dubbed as karo by a jirga. But he used to visit his relatives in the village. Some two days back, Gaji visited the village to attend a marriage ceremony of his relative and when he was returning from the party, the accused axed him to death and fled.

ARRESTED: About 30 people were arrested by the Khairpur police in Ghambheer village on Sunday following the murder of Sadar Ghambheer some four days back.

According to villagers, the FIR regarding the killing of Sadar Ghambheer had been registered against 10 persons while the Khairpur police had raided the houses of innocent people and arrested them. They alleged police were demanding illegal gratification for their release. They appealed to the DPO to conduct inquiry into the matter.
