ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Pakistani and Chinese writers discussed proposals for enhancing bilateral cooperation through regular visits by writers, exchange of translated works and setting up language learning centres.

According to a message received here from Beijing, the visiting 5-member Pakistani writers' delegation, led by renowned literary figure Mushtaq Ahmed Yousafi, met Wang Jucai, Senior Member All China Writers Association, and had fruitful exchange of views on cooperation in the field of literature.

Both sides agreed that there should be regular exchange of visits by top-level writers and the visiting delegations should bring along translations of their literary masterpieces to gradually compile a collection of such works in each other's country.

The Pakistani delegation proposed setting up Chinese learning centres in Pakistan, which would help the youth develop greater understanding of Chinese history and literature.

Both sides also discussed the recent developments in field of literature in both countries and opined that they could learn from each other's experience in producing quality literary works.

Wang Jucai spoke highly of the existing cooperation between Pakistan Academy of Letters and the All China Writers Association. However, he said there was room for expanding this cooperation through frequent exchange of visits by writers.

He appreciated the proposals put forth by the Pakistani delegation and said these were very much practicable. Later, he hosted a banquet in honour of the Pakistani guests which was attended by senior officials of the All China Writers Association and Chinese guests from various walks of life.
