RAWALPINDI, May 25: Eid-Milad-un-Nabi was observed with religious fervour and enthusiasm in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

Processions were brought out from different areas of the city and cantonment areas. Thousands of people participated in these processions to pay homage to the last prophet.

Naat recitation and Qawwali competitions were also held in various mosques, schools and open places.

Colourful flags inscribed with Quranic verses were displayed on various roads and mosques. Most of the government and private buildings had been illuminated.

In the cantonment areas, the main procession was taken out from Chungi 22 which after marching through Telegraph Road, Kashmir Road, Adamjee Road, Coal Centre and Massi Gate culminated at the same place from where it started. Besides, about 50 small processions were taken out from different localities like Dhamiyal, Allama Iqbal Colony, Tench Bhatta, Peoples Colony, Kamalabad, Dheri Hassanabad, Lalkurti and other areas which later joined the main procession.

Local religious leaders led the processions. Apart from the students from religious seminaries, local ulema, social and political figures and people from different walks of life participated in the processions. About 10,000 to 15,000 people participated in the processions.

Philanthropists and other religious people had set up stalls at different places to provide drinks and foods to the participants of the processions.

The civic agencies had made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the processions. All the roads, streets and routes of the processions had been properly cleaned. Traffic had also been suspended on the roads and routes through which the processions were to pass.

In the city, the main procession was brought out from Markazi Jamia Masjid Road which passed through various routes like Banni, Iqbal Road, Trunk Road, Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Kohati Bazaar and Murree Road and ended at Jamia Masjid Road.

Murree Road had been blocked for traffic from Chandni Chowk to Moti Mahal. Apart from the main procession, about 100 small processions were also taken out from different areas of the city.

Main localities from where the processions were brought out include Satellite Town, Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, New Katarian, Shamsabad, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Ratta Amral, Dhoke Ratta, Dhoke Khabba, Dhoke Hassu and Dhoke Kala Khan.
