SUKKUR, Nov 24: The Frontier Works Organization has completed preliminaries to start repair work of the Sukkur Barrage. Brig Jawed Ashraf Bajwah of the FWO is supervising the repair work.

FWO authorities are also in touch with experts of the National Development Consultant Company, Lahore.

It was learnt that the project director of the MEW Company, Arif Shaikh, and Mr Atkin of a London-based company had also reached Sukkur to give their expert advice to the FWO.

FWO authorities said they would not be able to inform the press directly about the progress of the work. However, ISPR Pano Aqil and Karachi, will issue statements about the work progress from time to time.

The FWO and Army Engineer Corps have constructed an alternative bridge over the Sukkur Barrage. In this connection, a brief meeting was held which was attended by officials of the irrigation department, Army Engineer Corps and the FWO. The repair work will be completed by April 2005.

LIFE TERM AWARDED: The Anti-Terrorism Court-II, Sukkur and Larkana divisions, here on Wednesday sentenced eight persons to two times life imprisonment in a double murder case.

The convicts were identified as Mian Dad, Raees, Khamiso, Bashiro, Ali Gohar, Ghafoor, Sakhi, and Ali Sher. They had killed Nawab and Khuda Bux on July 8 in the Dubbar police station jurisdiction, Sukkur. Police have arrested Mian Dad while the other accused are absconding.

AIGP: The AIGP, Sukkur, has seized powers of DPOs of postings and transfers of police officials, this correspondent learnt. The AIGP also directed the DPOs to submit a list of police officials working in their home districts so that they could be posted in other districts.
