DADU: NGO woman escapes from captivity

DADU, Nov 25: A social worker escaped 11 days after she had been kidnapped by armed men and reached Dadu police station on Thursday. Ms Vinto is the president of the Sangat Development Organization.

She arrived at the police station early in the morning and told SHO Nazar Mohammad Deshak that she had been kidnapped by eight armed men on Eidul Fitr day in the Daro Shaikh area.

She said the armed men took her in Paryal Qambrani village of the Dadu district for eight days and later shifted her to Fl-61, Murad Wahan area in Larkana city. She alleged that she was subjected to torture and kept handcuffed. She said the kidnappers threatened her to close down all projects related to health, education, environment and human rights in Dadu.

Police lodged a complaint against Kirshan Oad, Ladak Oad, Panah Abro, Golo Masih and Nawab Samoo. As Vinto reached the main gate of Dadu town police station after lodging complaint armed men attempted to kidnap her again but she raised hue and cry. Some police officials reach- ed for her rescue and arrested one of the accused Kirshan Oad while his other accomplices escaped.

Talking to newsmen Vinto said she was Hindu but some persons of her community and their Muslim friends were threatening her to close all her projects of social sector and get married with a Hindu man.

Vinto feared she would be killed if the accused were not arrested and protection was not given to her. She appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Sindh chief minister and the local administration to provide her protection.

DPO Javed Alam Odho said that police would provide protection to her and kidnappers would be arrested. Mr Odho said police were conducting raids in different areas to arrest the accused nominated in the FIR. Meanwhile, a large number of social workers staged a demonstration outside the local press club demanding arrest of the kidnappers.
