KARACHI, Nov 26: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain said on Friday that his party supported neither the rule by a general nor by his institution and if all the political parties agreed on a broad parameter, the MQM would support them.

Mr Hussain was addressing an Eid Milan party for journalists. He was asked to explain his party's position on the issue of the president's uniform, especially because it had been the victim of a military operation and how the MQM would retract from this validation in the future if it was placed in a similar situation.

Mr Hussain said those who were making a hue and cry on the uniform issue were targeting only Gen Pervez Musharraf. "We say that neither a general nor his institution should have the right to interfere in governance. If all the political parties agreed on that one point, the MQM will be with them."

Mr Hussain said the fact was that the military had always ruled the country, sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly. Answering a question, he said that political parties which were speaking against the LFO and the uniform were not addressing the issues which concerned 98 per cent of the people.

He said that India was far ahead of Pakistan because it had banished feudalism and invested in human development and industry. But here, those who were accused of corruption and plundering the exchequer, were being greeted profusely.

He said that the political parties should agree not to dub their opponents traitors and differences of opinion should not evoke physical reaction.
