ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: Indonesia's Jeffer Rosobin sent Japanese top seed Ikeda Yuichi crashing out of the Pakistan Asian Satellite international badminton tournament to storm into the final of the men's singles event on Monday.

In what was the biggest upset of the day, Rosobin carved out a 15-5, 15-12 victory at the Liaquat Gymnasium setting up an all- Indonesia decider. His compatriot Marleve Mainaky on the other hand conquered the tournament's No 2 seed, Gupta Abhin Shyam of India whom he beat 15-8, 15-6.

For the home team, it was a bad day as their lone hope in the singles quarter-finals, Wajid Ali Chaudhry lost to Yuichi 10-15, 9- 15 earlier in the day. Later, Ali Yar Baig and Ayesha Akram were hammered 15-3, 15-3 in the mixed doubles semifinals by India's Bristow Markose and BR Meenakshi.

Another blow was inflicted by Markose and Xaveer Jaison who ousted the home pair of Tahir Ishaq and Ahmed Waqas in the men's doubles semifinals. The women's doubles crown was annexed by the Indian team of Nair Dhanya and Govardhini Sharada who defeated Nepalese duo of Pooja Shrestha and Sumina Shrestha 15-10, 15-6.

The women's singles final meanwhile will be an all-India affair after BR Meenakshi and Govardhini Sharada knocked out their respective opponents. Meenakshi eliminated Indonesia's Dewi Arisandi 11-2, 11-8 in the first semifinal while Govardhini thrashed her team-mate Nair Dhanya 11-5, 11-5. The tournament, Pakistan's first big shuttle event is due to close on Tuesday.
