KASUR, Dec 8: A man was killed while four others, including a woman, were injured in a collision between a wagon and a motorcycle rickshaw at Wapda Colony, Chunian.

Police said Akram, along with four passengers, was going to Chunian by the rickshaw (LRT-1851).

A speedy wagon (LRO-3065) coming from the opposite direction hit the rickshaw as a result of which Akram was killed on the spot. Passengers Ashraf, Faisal, Adnan and Ms Sakina were rushed to the THQ hospital, Chunian. Chunian police have registered a case against the absconding wagon driver.

DEVOLUTION: The new district government system is not delivering due to lack of capacity building of the state departments. These views were expressed by the speakers of an open discussion held under the auspices of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) at Phoolnagar on Wednesday.

They said the devolution was aimed at empowering masses and resolving their problems at their door step. However, the system was launched without preparing the departments.

They said CIDA could help streamline the system through its technical and advisory support. CIDA officials said it has been working in two districts of the Punjab, Kasur and Lodhran, for capacity building of the local body institutions.

HASHISH SEIZED: Phoolnagar police claimed to have recovered 200 kilograms of hashish from the haveli of an alleged proclaimed offenders. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the haveli of Ashraf alias Achha. The man, however, fled from the scene. They searched the haveli and found hashish. Police have registered a case against the absconding accused.
