RAWALPINDI, Dec 15: On a day of high drama, Rawalpindi took an 84-run first innings lead on the opening day of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match against Faisalabad at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Wednesday.
Pace man Yasir Arafat snared five wickets in an explosive spell as the hosts sent Faisalabad crashing to 64 all out in the 31st over. Yasin Bari also bowled splendidly to return figures of 4-3- 4-3.
Five of the visiting batsmen went for nought with only opener M. Asif scoring 19 to be the main run greater. Rawalpindi could not fare too well in their first innings and fell for 148 in the 36th over.
Test discard Azhar Mahmood, playing his first trophy match of the season, cracked 44 with eight fours and a six. Ali Raza captured four wickets in a tidy spell while Shahid Nazir claimed three to keep the home team in check.
