LARKANA, Dec 16: A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in Shahdadkot and Qubo Saeed Khan on Thursday in protest against the creation of Kambar district.
Business centres in both towns remained closed and there was no traffic on roads. A large number of residents assembled at the Koto-moto chowk of Shahdadkot.
Addressing a gathering, Shahdadkot Taluka Naib Nazim Haroon Soomro, the taluka president of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Mr Ishaque Mughiri, Uris Seelro and Gaibi Khan Mughiri criticized the Sindh government's decision of ignoring the bigger town of Shahdadkot.
They alleged that the government made Kambar as district only to please Nawab Shabbir Ahmed Chandio. They said the government had gerrymandered the constituency of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto by including it in Kambar district. They said they would continue protest till their demands were not accepted.
GULBANO: A woman, Gulbano Seelro, who was divorced on the day of her marriage after being dubbed by her bridegroom as woman of 'bad character', appeared in the office of the chairman of the District Public Safety Commission on Thursday.
She and her mother, Roshan, and maternal uncle Sikandar Seelro told the chairman, Dr Jamshaid Abro, that her former husband Ghous Bakhsh and his relatives were issuing threats to her.
They alleged that on the first night of her marriage, the bridegroom subjected her to torture and inflicted cigarette burns on her body. Gulbano said she was saved by her mother and the matter was placed before the elders.
UC Shahdadkot Nazim Ibrahim Seelro settled the matter deciding that she would be divorced and the money obtained by her uncle who had sold her would be paid to the bridegroom's party.
She said her former husband; Alam Seelro and Rahim Seelro were planning to abduct her younger sister. She called for providing security to her. The chairman of the DPSC called Shahdadkot DSP Sarwar Abro and asked for providing security to her and her family members.
ADVOCATES PROTEST: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings and took out a procession here on Monday to demand safe and early recovery of the kidnapped judges. Led by Safdar Bhutto, president of the District Bar Association, Larkana, the lawyers marched through main thoroughfares of the city to assemble outside the press club.
Speaking to the protesters, DBA president, secretary-general and others criticized the government for its failure to recover the judges, and said that their protests would continue until the judges were recovered. Demanding that the victims be recovered safely and without delay, they dispersed peacfully.
