HYDERABAD, Dec 19: A large number of haris, including women and children, staged a demonstration in protest against the Digri police and a local landlord.

Talking to newsmen, a leader of the Azad Hari Union, Mr Laljee said that on an application filed by the HRCP, the Digri police had conducted a raid on the private jail of the landlord and secured the release of 10 haris.

He alleged that two haris, Dayo and Haryo, had been kidnapped by some men of the landlord in the presence of police. He said a hari woman and her minor son had been held hostages by the landlord. He appealed to the authorities to rescue the hostages and take a legal action against the landlord.

PROTEST: Residents of Pathan Goth and Guddu Naka under the banner of Hyderabad Citizen Awami Forum staged a demonstration in protest against delay in release of funds for Hyderabad.

Talking to newsmen, Kaleem Malik, Aijaz Lashari, Ghaffar Malik and Tariq Baloch said three talukas of the district had been destroyed due to indifferent attitude of Sindh and federal governments.

They said even the development package announced by the Sindh governor for Hyderabad had not been released. They said houses in Pathan Goth and Guddu Naka would collapse any moment due to accumulation of gutter water.

They demanded that the amount of Hyderabad development package be released without any delay. They appealed to MNAs and MPAs of three talukas to raise their voice in assemblies for the immediate release of the package. They warned that if the development package were not released, they would stage a protest march in Karachi.
