THATTA, Dec 23: About 250 activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians were booked on Thursday by the Sujawal police for creating disturbance, issuing threats and damaging public property during a protest procession on Tuesday against the arrest and alleged torture of eight party workers.

Those nominated in the FIR registered under section 147, 148, 149, 341 and 506/2 included district PPP president Syed Masood Mustafa Shah, district deputy general-secretary, Arbab Mohammad Din Memon, district office secretary Mohsin Sindhi, Sujawal taluka president Moosa Leghari, Mirpur Bathoro taluka president Wahid Parhiar, Union Council Naib Nazim Mehar Shah and Hyderabad division PPP working committee member Zahid Chandio.

They had allegedly issued threats against police, chanted anti-government slogans and damaged public properties. Police are conducting raids at houses of the nominated people to arrest them.

Meanwhile, PPP Sindh Council member Aijaz Ali Khwaja, Dr Shams Shoro, Masood Mustafa Shah and other party leaders accused the district nazim of instigating police to register what they called a fake FIR against the activists. Speaking at a press conference here, they condemned the police action and demanded withdrawal of the FIR.

ADVISER: The construction of a highway from Ghaghar Phatak to Ali Bandar will be initiated very soon which will provide job opportunities and open other avenues of livelihood along the coastal belt of Thatta and Badin districts. This was disclosed by the adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Communication and Works, Mr Mumtaz Hameed, while presiding over a meeting at the Makli circuit house on Thursday to review development schemes and law and order situation.

He directed the officials to ensure completion of ongoing development schemes as per specifications and its completion within the stipulated time. He revealed that development and prosperity of the province was one of the foremost priorities of the Sindh chief minister.

He advised the officers to play their due role in implementing the Sindh government policies to bridge the gulf in between smaller town and big cities of the province.

He directed the DCO to ensure priority in jobs in Thatta industries to local people, adding that he will tackle the issue in Sindh Assembly. He said he will approach industrialists to install small marble factories in the district.
