LARKANA, Dec 27: A complete strike was observed in Qambar on Monday in protest against the killing of four people allegedly by police. A partial protest strike was observed in Larkana.

The soyem of the deceased was held at the residence of Nawab Shabir Ahmed Chandio. A procession was also taken out in Qambar. The protesters chanting slogans against the brutal police action assembled in the center of the town.

Bhao Dur Mohammed Buriro and Nazir Tunio of the Citizens' Action Committee led the procession. The demonstrators burnt tyres and closed the roads for traffic. They were demanding the arrest of police officials involved in the killing of four peaceful demonstrators.

Activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians took out a separate procession. Taluka president of the party Gaibi Khan Chandio led the procession. The PPP activists burnt tyres and closed the railways track linking Shahdadkot with Qambar and Larkana city.

They asked the passengers of a Shahdadkot bound train to raise slogans in favour of Qambar district. Later, without causing any damage to the train, they allowed it to continue the journey.

Pakistan Muslim Leader leader and Taluka Nazim Sardar Khan Chandio demanded that the nominated police officers should be arrested within 48 hours. He said action should also be taken against Larkana DPO Muzaffar Shaikh.

Meanwhile, an inquiry team headed by additional IGP Asad Jehangir Khan continued its proceedings for the third day in Larkana. The committee has completed the statements and will submit its report to the Sindh IGP Syed Kamal Shah.

The DPO Larkana Muzaffar Shaikh will submit his report separately, the sources said. Responding to the call of the PPP, the main trade centres in Larkana city remained closed while traffic was thin on the roads.

The party had given strike call to disapprove government's decision of district bifurcation, the removal of Larkana district nazim and killing of four people in Qambar.

The PPP activists took to the roads and burnt tyres at different places. The chairperson of the PPP (SB), Ghinwa Bhutto, also visited Qambar and condoled with families of the deceased. Opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro visited the town on Sunday and condoled with the bereaved families.
