GUJRANWALA, Jan 4: Traders of Thenewala Bazaar went on shutter down strike when unidentified gunmen shot dead a hotel owner on Tuesday.
According to protesters, Abdul Razzaq was sitting in his hotel when the gunmen came there and opened fire on him. They escaped after killing him on the spot.
Traders pulled down shutters of their shops and gathered outside the hotel. They chanted slogans against police on their failure to curb crime and protecting the lives of common people.
However, they called off their strike when senior police officers and Kotwali police SHO reached there and assured them that the suspects would be arrested soon. Police removed the body to civil hospital for autopsy.
MOTORCYCLIST: A motorcyclist was shot dead by robbers who took away his bike on Sheikhupura Road. Muhammad Yasin was on his way to Tetley by his motorcycle. Two robbers intercepted him when he reached near Khiali by-pass intersection. They shot him dead on putting up resistance and drove away with his motorcycle.
ROBBERIES: Robbers looted three houses and drove away with the car of an industrialist in four strikes in and around the city here on Tuesday. Three outlaws sneaked into the house of Hanif Bhatti in Rashid Colony by scaling boundary wall. They held his wife Zahida at gunpoint and snatched Rs60,500 in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables and escaped.
Later, they entered into the house of Dr Mushtaq Ahmad in the same locality. They tied the family members with ropes, collected Rs50,000 in cash, gold jewellery weighing 14 tolas and other valuables and fled away with the booty.
Unidentified outlaws broke into the house of industrialist Muhammad Aftab in Wapda Town and took away his car (LZ-6900). Four bandits sneaked into the house of Malik Safdar in Habibpura locality.
They locked the family in a room, gathered Rs30,000 in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables worth of Rs70,000 and escaped. They beat up the house owner for putting up resistance.
