ISLAMABAD, Jan 4: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has signed the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2004, which was passed by the National Assembly on Oct 26, 2004, and by the Senate on Dec 7, 2004.

The law provides for the enhancement of punishment of honour-related crimes committed in the name of Karo Kari, Siyah Kari and similar other customs or practices.

The law will also help stop the misuse of Blasphemy Law and Hudood Ordinance as the level of investigation is being raised to that of the Superintendent of Police. Provision has also been made not to arrest a woman accused of Zina without the permission of the court. -APP
