HYDERABAD, Jan 9: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro has said the Sindh government is planning capacity building of teachers by providing effective training to them to improve the standard of education.

She was speaking at a primary teachers' training programme being conducted in collaboration with the district education department here on Saturday evening. The programme is being implemented under united education initiative, education sector reforms assistance (ESRA).

The minister said the government was working for brining reforms in the education sector. She said attempt was being made to change traditional way of teaching where students due to fear of punishment could not explore their creative skills.

She said teaching was a noble profession and teachers should be respected as architects of nation building. Ms Khuhro said we would have to revise the syllabus to make it relevant to today's needs.

She announced that teacher training programme would be extended to all districts of Sindh so that not a single teacher was left out. Earlier, the manager operation, Hyderabad, Mr Ghulam Asghar Memon, briefed the minister about the TTP and informed that 7,010 primary school teachers had been trained under that programme.

The additional secretary education and literacy, Sindh, Dr Mehboob Shaikh, EDO education Abdul Majeed Hur, the dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Sindh, Prof Asif Ali Kazi, Shakila Shah and Farida Shaikh also spoke on the occasion.
