HYDERABAD, Jan 9: People's Party Parliamentarians leader Mohammad Usman Kennedy has opposed the proposed division of Hyderabad district and warned that his party will use its democratic right to resist the move.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Saturday, he supported formation of a Hyderabad city district but said that it should comprise the entire district.

He said that Hyderabad was one the most important districts of Sindh and it should not be divided on ethnic lines. He added that ethnic harmony existed in Hyderabad but the government and its coalition partners wanted to harm it by trying to divide the district.

The PPP leader said that traders from the interior of Sindh made their bulk purchases of goods from the markets of Hyderabad and warned that if it was bifurcated, its economy would be destroyed.

He argued that it took less than one hour for the people of New Saeedabad and Hala to reach Hyderabad but if Tando Allahyar was made a district, they will take three hours to reach there. He said that new districts were crated to provide facilities to people but unfortunately new districts were being created in Sindh to appease certain political leaders.
