SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 10: A bandit was shot dead, three pedestrians sustained injuries while three accomplices of the deceased escaped in an 'encounter' near Attari Sham Singh here on Monday.

Reports said four dacoits were looting passers by on the Bucheki-Syedwala Road near Attari Sham Singh. When some people offered resistance, the bandits opened fire injuring three pedestrians - Irshad, Muhammad Ali and Mulazim Hussain.

On seeing a police party, the outlaws opened fire on it which the police returned. As a result, dacoit Amin alias Meena was killed while his three accomplices escaped.

The police claimed to have recovered a gun and dozens of cartridges from Amin's custody. Meanwhile, District Police Officer Shahid Iqbal told the press that Amin was involved in many cases and wanted by the police of various districts. The DPO announced cash prize and commendation certificates to the raiding party. He said the teams had been constituted to arrest others.
