HYDERABAD, Jan 11: The Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party has opposed the creation of new districts in Sindh, saying the division of Hyderabad district on ethnic lines will prove disastrous.

Briefing reporters about the proceedings of the three-day session of the central committee of the party at the press club on Tuesday, the chairman of the party, Dr Qadir Magsi, said the meeting had discussed all the problems confronting Sindh, including rampant lawlessness, kidnapping of the two sessions judges and demarcation of districts.

Haider Shahani, Hameed Memon, Ashiq Solangi and Nand Lal Malhi were also present on the occasion. He alleged that the districts were always created to provide maximum facilities to people but pro-establishment political leaders were segregating people on tribal and ethnic lines.

He wondered why five districts of Sindh in Karachi were merged into one city district government and why Hyderabad was being divided to create a city district government.

He said that the district was being divided on the demand of the MQM. He alleged that the MQM's demand for opening the Khokhrapar route, repatriation of Biharis and issuance of CNICs to illegal immigrants in Karachi was also aimed at to turn the Sindhis in a minority.

He said while the doors of employment had been closed for the Sindhis, the non-Sindhis were being recruited in those ministries which were held by the MQM. He said three provinces and all the mainstream political parties of the country including the PPP, PML-N, JUI-F and Jamaat-i-Islami were opposing construction of the Kalabagh dam but Gen Musharraf was never tired of advocating water projects.
