KARACHI, Jan 11: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president Tariq Kirmani said on Tuesday there would be no overnight changes in the current administrative set up but each official including him would be accountable for any mismanagement.
"There could be changes but I don't believe in changes for the sake of changes. There could be no overnight results after overnight changes.
"The team will remain the same and we will see that things will change. Each and every official, even me, will be accountable before the nation," the newly-installed PHF chief told reporters at Hockey Club of Pakistan.
Mr Kirmani was all praise for the former PHF president Gen Aziz Khan and secretary Brig Musarrat Ullah Khan, saying "they have done a good job by promoting the game in the country."
"I believe they (officials) have done a very good job and have made right decisions. I don't see any instant changes (in the set up)," he said but did not rule out possibility of changes in the current set up. "If I feel changes are necessary there will definitely be changes in the future. But that will be only after careful study and thorough analysis," he added.
However, he parried the question when asked what good could be expected by calling former Olympians to seek suggestions and ways and means for the promotion of the sport since the exercise had failed to yield results in the past by former officials.
"A new head of the organization always seeks suggestions and I hope we will be able to put the game back on track by consulting experts of the game," he said. Former PHF president Akhtar Rasool, who is now serving as chairman of the national selection committee, had also invited Olympians soon after taking over in late 1990s.
However, the game suffered during his tenure before he was asked to submit resignation in 1999 and Arif Abbasi became the president. Mr Kirmani refrained from replying when asked to offer comments on the pattern of this year's national championship which was organized separately for provincial and departmental sides.
"These are technical matters and I can't comment on this issue right now. But we will be putting things straight after consulting the concerned people," he replied. The PHF official said he would meet national team members to know about their needs. "I will ask the players what they expect from federation and the country."
