THATTA, May 28: The continuous decline of water level at the Keenjhar Lake is rendering some 50 million gallon short supply of water to Karachi every day.

If this decline is neglected constantly for a month, it will cause acute water crisis for Karachities, Dawn learnt here on Tuesday.

The water level has reached 44.12 feet gauge which is below the dead level.

Sources said that some one month back when President Gen Pervez Musharraf inaugurated a water supply scheme (K-III) to Karachi, the water level at the Keenjhar Lake was slightly over the 45ft dead level.

If the lake was not brought back on its normal level through filling it from River Indus or natural rain, the hot season, which cause evaporation, would lead to water crisis.

Meanwhile a large number of PPP activists took out a procession against shortage of water here on Tuesday.

The protesters, who were carrying banners, placards, empty utensils and buckets, raised slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf and local administration for allegedly depriving them of potable water.
