MULTAN, Jan 17: Bahawalnagar becomes the eighth district in the PTCL's Multan region when it gets the system of new and single dialling code with new telephone number plan from Tuesday (today).

New code '063' would replace the old code '0631' with changes in old telephone numbers. However, both old and new codes and old and new telephone numbers would remain operational for three months from their respective dates of activation.

The ongoing system of up gradation being carried out in south Punjab will save people from the exercise of remembering telephone codes of different areas in a district as the new code would be applicable on all areas in a district.

Codes of districts already activated with new codes: Elaborating change in telephone numbers, officials said that a prefix of '22' would be attached to the telephone numbers of exchanges, including Bahawalnagar-I, and Haroonabad.

A prefix of '2' would be attached to numbers of subscribers being served by exchanges Mandi Sadiq Ganj, Maclod Ganj, Manchanabad, Bakshan Khan, Chak 28 Jajiani, Chak 95 Fateh, Meher Sharif, Sheher Farid, Chak 109/6-R, Chak 23,24/3-R, Chak 214/N-R, Chak 296/H-R, Chak 69/4-R, Marwat, Mianwali Bangla, Shaheed Chowk, Yateemwala, Shehbazwala, and Donga Bonga.

Telephone numbers of Chishtian beginning from prefixes of '51' to '59' would now begin with prefixes of '2501' to 2509'. Prefixes '410' and '411' of Dahranwala would be replaced by '2440' and '2441'. Prefixes of '540' and '541' in Faqeerwali exchange would be replaced by '2240' and '2241'.

Telephone numbers of Fort Abbas beginning with prefixes of '410', '411', and '412' would now begin with '2510', '2511' and '2512'. The '550' prefix of telephone numbers in Khichiwala would be replaced by a four-digit prefix '2255' while prefix '781' of Madarsah exchange would be replaced by a new prefix of '2431'. -APP'
