FAISALABAD, Jan 24: A no-objection certificate (NOC) from police has been made mandatory for marriage ceremonies in the city and rural areas to implement the Supreme Court's verdict on the ban on serving of meals and lighting on houses.

The decision has been taken during a meeting presided over by DCO Tahir Husain Khan and attended by DPO Amin Wains and other senior police and administrative officials here on Monday.

The meeting was told that every citizen would have to obtain an NOC from the security branch for holding marriage ceremony outside the boundary walls of their houses.

"SHO of the area would personally monitor the activities and would check the marriage parties for the implementation of ban on serving of meals and other restrictions. Cases would be registered under the law and none would be spared at any cost," the meeting observed.

The meeting was told that Tehsil Municipal Administrations and local councils had also been directed not to issue NOC to anyone for holding marriage ceremony in parks, green belts, streets and open places without the assurance that no meal would be served.

The meeting resolved that special notices would be issued to hotels, marriage halls and catering contractors for strict implementation of the ban. The meeting decided that strict action would be taken by police and administration against the violators.

A monitoring cell has also been set up in the DCO office under the supervision of DO (coordination) Malik Aslam for the implementation of judgment of the superior court. The TMAs and local councils have been asked to send their detailed reports about the matter on monthly basis to the monitoring cell.
