SWABI, Jan 25: Stopping domestic violence against women is vital for healthy upbringing of children and financial progress and prosperity of families.

This was stated by women councillors and leaders of non-governmental organizations while speaking on 'Domestic Violence against Women' at a programme organized by the Abaseen Union of Journalists on Tuesday.

The president of Samajee Bahbood Rabita Council Roohal Amin underscored the need for taking preventive measures for shielding women from violence. Councillor Falak Naz said the main reason of women's failure to protect themselves from violence was lack of education. She demanded that the government opened more schools for girls.

Another councillor, Shafqat Rani said that participation of women in making important decisions could help achieve the objective of creating a healthy society. Another speaker, Mohammad Aqil, called for collective efforts and support from the government to free women from the cycle of domestic violence.
