HYDERABAD, Jan 26: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company in its drive against defaulters on Wednesday cut 900 electricity connections of Sindh government departments for not clearing their dues.

Hesco had served final notices on the departments one week ago to clear their electricity dues by Jan 25 but they failed. The defaulters whose power connections were cut were mainly taluka municipal administrations and other departments in interior of Sindh.

A source in Hesco told Dawn that at the intervention of the Hyderabad DCO, power supply to the Hyderabad Development Authority and the Water and Sanitation Agency was not disconnected and they had to clear their dues by Feb 15. He, however, made it clear that no further extension would be given to them.

According to Hesco, Rs2,037 million is outstanding against Sindh government departments. Giving details, the source said, Rs386.4 million was outstanding directly against the provincial government, Rs261.168 million against the HDA, Rs105.3 million against local councils, Rs248.01 million against district governments and Rs1036.56 million against taluka municipal administrations in the interior of Sindh.
