MINGORA: Council demands funds

Published January 27, 2005

MINGORA, Jan 26: The tehsil council of Swat has asked the provincial government to stop interfering in its affairs and release funds allocated for ongoing schemes.

These demands were made during a meeting of the council here on Wednesday, which was presided over by convener Syed Akbar Shah Lala. Tehsil nazim Rafiul Mulk Kamran Khan also spoke on the occasion.

Other speakers said that the provincial government was creating hurdles in the affairs of the local bodies, which was against the interests of the people. The meeting was informed that the provincial government had not released the council's share for development schemes, leaving those schemes in the doldrums.

They said that the federal government had held the LBs elections on non-party basis, but the government of MMA politicized them. The meeting also took notice of rising prices of items of daily use. They also asked the heads of different government departments to cooperate with the elected people in completing the schemes in time.
