Published January 28, 2005

LAHORE, Jan 27: The Punjab Tourism Department has started work for the establishment of a Mughal theme restaurant in the historic Shahi Hammam inside Delhi Gate to serve the Mughal era delicacies to visitors under a traditional atmosphere.

The work on the project was reviewed at a meeting held here on Thursday with provincial tourism minister Mian Muhammad Aslam Iqbal in the chair. The minister was informed that encroachments in and around the historic building had been removed and its restoration and face lift was in progress under the supervision of engineers.

Mr. Iqbal was further informed that the Shahi Hammam would be restored in its original form for the establishment of the Mughal theme restaurant there. An information centre was also proposed to be established at the site for the guidance of tourists after the restoration while staging of plays and shooting of movies would not be allowed without prior permission and payment of the prescribed charges.

The department would make strict security arrangements at the place and those found damaging the structure in any manner would be arrested.
