KASUR, Jan 28: Commuters, especially women and schoolchildren, have been facing grave difficulty because the district administration and police have impounded public transport vehicles for carrying people to Okara to welcome President Gen Musharraf on Saturday.
Rain and cold has added to the their problems as they have to wait for hours to take a conveyance to reach their destinations. It is also learnt that transporters, fearing impounding, have taken their vehicles off the roads. The aggrieved people condemned the district government and Kasur police.
SHOT DEAD: Three people allegedly shot dead a man and injured his son over an old enmity in Chak 17 Chhanga Manga on Friday. Police said Ashraf, along with his son Adeel, was going to a doctor when accused Iqbal and his accomplices intercepted them.
They shot Ashraf to death and injured Adeel. He was taken to hospital from where he was referred to the Jinnah Hospital, Lahore. Police have registered a case on the report of deceased's brother Asghar. No arrest has so far been made.
KILLED: Two persons were killed and 12 others injured when a wagon they were travelling in overturned and dashed against a roadside tree at Bhoiy Aasal village, Chhanga Manga, on Friday.
Reports said a wagon (LHP-291) was going to Pattoki from Lahore when it overturned while negotiating a turn. As a result, Shabbir Ahmad and conductor Rasheed Ali were killed on the spot while 12 passengers - Razzaq, Sardar, Hanif, Nisar Ahmad, Sattar, Javed, Hanifan Bibi, Sardaran Bibi, Bilqees Bibi, Razia, Shabana and Munir Ahmad - suffered injuries.
They were taken to the Chhanga Manga rural health centre where their condition was stated to be stable. Chhanga Manga police are investigating.
